Terms of use — Zoo planner
An unofficial planner, free of charge. What the app promises, what it does not, and why the zoo's own instructions always win.
What this app is
Zoo planner is an unofficial planner for visits to zoos. It is run by a private individual, Martin Skalický, free of charge, with no account and no advertising. It is not operated by, or affiliated with, any zoo. Zoo names are used only so that we can talk about them.
By using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use it.
Inside the grounds, the zoo wins
Signage, barriers, the visitor rules and the instructions of staff always take precedence over anything this app shows. Where they differ, follow the zoo.
Keep to the marked paths. The app never invites you to leave one — routes are computed only along public ways from OpenStreetMap, and service roads are excluded before a route is built at all.
Deciding where to walk and what is safe remains yours. The app knows nothing of closures, the current state of a path or operational changes, and the weather forecast it shows is only a forecast.
The information is indicative
Feeding times, opening hours and species lists come from each zoo's own public pages and from OpenStreetMap. We take them in good faith, but we do not warrant that they are complete, current or free of error.
The weather forecast comes from MET Norway and is simplified by us into the day and its parts; the app may suggest the order of a route by the hours rain is forecast. It is a forecast, not a promise: the weather may differ, and we are not liable for a decision you base on it.
A zoo may change its programme, close an enclosure or cancel a feeding at any time — for outdoor events, usually because of the weather. Walking times estimate an adult at an ordinary pace; with children, a pushchair or in crowds, allow longer.
The app is provided as it stands, and we do not guarantee it will always be available.
Liability — and what cannot be excluded
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your reliance on information in the app: a missed feeding, a wasted journey, time spent otherwise than planned, or damage to property.
We do not, however, claim what cannot be claimed. Under § 2898 of the Czech Civil Code, a clause excluding or limiting in advance the duty to compensate harm to a person's natural rights — life and health — or harm caused intentionally or by gross negligence is disregarded. Such a clause would be void however it was worded, so we do not pretend to have shed that liability.
What holds instead: this app does not run the grounds, does not decide where the paths go, and never invites anyone off one — it says the opposite, on every screen.
Reporting a problem
A report about something wrong on the map is a suggestion, not an order: we need not act on it or publish it. Send only what you are willing to share — the form is open and needs no sign-in. What reaches us is described in the privacy policy.
Data, content and licences
The map comes from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), animal descriptions from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0), photographs from Wikimedia Commons under the licence each one is credited with alongside its author, the checkable species facts from Wikidata (CC0), and the weather forecast from MET Norway (CC BY 4.0), which we simplify into the day and its parts and the hours with rain. Every card names its source and links to where you can verify it. The routes and the walking graph are derived from OpenStreetMap data and carry the same licence.
The app's own text, icons and artwork belong to its author and may not be reused elsewhere without permission. The exception is the lion photograph in the link previews and on Google Play: it is by Giles Laurent (Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 4.0); we cropped it, and those images are offered under the same licence.
