Privacy policy — Zoo planner
This app collects nothing about you. What that means exactly, what stays on your phone, and where the data comes from.
What we do not do
No accounts and no sign-in. No cookies. No analytics and no measuring script on your device. No advertising and no third-party tracking scripts. We pass nothing about you on to anyone, because we hold nothing.
That is why the app has no consent banner — there is nothing to consent to.
What stays on your device
The animals you pick, your saved route, the start time of your visit, your language, your day or night preference and the last weather forecast downloaded are kept in your browser's own storage. They stay there and are never sent anywhere. Clearing this site's data in your browser deletes them.
Location
The app asks for your location only when you press "Show my location" yourself, or turn on route following. The coordinates are handled on your device — they draw your position on the map and re-time the route. They are never transmitted and never stored on any server. The planner is always given a place name as its starting point, never a coordinate.
Reporting a problem — the one thing that leaves
If you write a report about something wrong on the map, only your text and, if you tapped one, the place on the map are sent to us. The place is optional. Nothing else is attached — no name, no e-mail, no account.
If you propose a correction to an animal's name, what is sent is the proposed name, the proposed scientific name, the source link you gave, and your note — together with what we show for that animal today. The link is kept as text and opened only by the person reviewing the proposal.
We do not accept photos. Image uploads were deliberately not built, so that we keep nothing extra about you and need not ask you to sign in.
Reports are seen only by the people who maintain this app's content; a new one reaches us as an e-mail carrying its text. A handled report is deleted automatically 12 months after it was handled; an unhandled one stays in the queue until someone deals with it.
Notifications
Alerts telling you it is time to leave for a feeding are produced by the app on your own device. They are not push notifications — no server knows your position, so there is nothing that could send you anything.
What the server sees
The pages, the zoo data and the photographs are served by our host (Vercel), which keeps the ordinary request logs any web server keeps — IP address, time and the address requested. They exist for operation and security; beyond that we read only aggregate numbers from them — how many requests reached which pages — never anything about a particular person. We do not connect them to a person. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operation, security and an overview of visits (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Where the data comes from
Animal descriptions come from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0) and photographs from Wikimedia Commons — each one credited with its author and the licence it was published under —, the checkable species facts from Wikidata (CC0), and the map from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). The weather forecast comes from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, MET Norway (CC BY 4.0). Feeding times, opening hours and the list of species kept are published by the zoos themselves. Every card names its source.
Sharing a plan
The "Share plan" button makes a link that carries the whole visit — the day, the times, the gate and the animals and feedings you chose. That long link is the plan itself: nothing is sent anywhere, and another phone opens it without a signal.
When the phone is online we offer a short link instead (zoovylety.cz/s/…). It exists because the same choices are stored on our server under a random code so they can be found again. Only what the long link shows in the address is stored — no position, no name, nothing you typed. A link is deleted a year after it was last opened.
Weather forecast
For the day you pick we show the weather forecast for the zoo's grounds. The app downloads it from our own server (admin.zoovylety.cz), which gets it from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, MET Norway — for the zoo's coordinates, not yours. Your phone never asks MET Norway anything, nothing about you reaches them, and the request for a forecast carries nothing at all — one file serves every zoo; our server sees it like any other request (see "What the server sees").
The app keeps the last forecast it downloaded on your device, so that it can show it without a signal.
Protection against flooding
So that the report form and short links cannot be used to flood us, we count how many arrive from one address in an hour. Instead of the address we keep its one-way fingerprint (a hash) for one hour, after which the database deletes it on its own. It is never stored with a report or a link.
Who processes the data
The controller is Martin Skalický, a private individual who runs the app for free. Contact: skalda@zoovylety.com.
These processors help us do it: Vercel (hosting the pages and server functions), MongoDB Atlas (the database of reports and short links), Resend (the e-mail telling us about a new report) and Google (the mailbox that e-mail arrives in). They are US companies; transfers follow their data processing terms (the EU standard contractual clauses, or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework).
Neither a report nor a short link is connected to anyone, so mostly they are not personal data at all. Where they are — say you write your name into a report — we process it on the basis of our legitimate interest in fixing the error you reported and in offering plan sharing (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or erase your data, to restrict its processing and to object. Since reports are connected to no one, we cannot find yours without your help — send us its text and roughly when you sent it, and we will delete it. You can lodge a complaint with the Czech data protection authority, ÚOOÚ (uoou.gov.cz).
Our profiles on social networks
Zoo planner has a profile on Bluesky, Facebook and Instagram. What you do there — following, comments, messages — is processed by the network under its own rules; the app itself neither links to Facebook or Instagram nor loads anything from them.
From Meta (Facebook, Instagram) we receive only aggregated statistics about the page — how many people saw the posts and how they interacted with them — never data about a particular person. Under EU law we are responsible for those statistics jointly with Meta; its share is set out in the Page Insights Controller Addendum, and rights concerning them are most easily exercised with Meta directly.
We read the comments and messages you send us and answer them. We do not copy them anywhere else or use them for anything else.
Children
The app is meant for families with children. Because it collects no data about anyone, it collects none about children either.
Changes
If any of this ever changes, it will be written here. Last updated: 2026-10-08.
